In March and April 2025, AAFEBEN conducted a mission to launch GEF7 project activities and a mission to strengthen the capacities of indigenous populations and local communities (IPLCs) on organizational aspects in the communes of Lomié, Mintom, and Ngoyla.
A start-up mission was carried out to meet, on the one hand, the GEF7 project stakeholders in the communes of Lomié, Mintom, and Ngoyla to present the GEF7 project to them and request their support throughout the implementation period. On the other hand, it was a question of meeting the 15 groups concerned by the project to present the project, its objectives, the adopted work methodology, the collaboration agreement, the monitoring and evaluation system that was validated by the different groups, a rapid assessment of the groups' needs was made, and finally, the focal points were presented in the different communities.
After the GEF 7 project presentation mission, it's time to launch activities, especially training on organizational aspects: group management. This training mission follows a prior assessment of capacity-building needs. At the end of this training, the learners were able to: recognize a good or bad leader, know the roles and responsibilities of board members as well as ordinary members, plan, execute, monitor, and evaluate activities, identify types of conflicts and the best strategies to resolve them, and know how to communicate to avoid conflicts within the group.
To carry out each of these 02 missions, AAFEBEN's top management formed 02 teams. The first was deployed in the commune of Lomié to support 08 groups (2 Baka and 6 Bantu), and the second team in Mintom and Ngoyla to support 07 groups (5 Baka and 2 Bantu).
